From 1967 to 1988
more than 600,000 Palestinians
have been held in Israeli jail for periods ranging
from one week to life.
During the first intifada
(1987-1994), Israel arrested some 175,000
Palestinians.
According to the Israeli
Human Rights Organization B'tselem, 2,755
Palestinians were by 3 October 2002
detained or imprisoned by IDF and 1,306 were detained
or imprisoned by Israeli Prisons Service (does
not include Palestinians held by Israel Police
Force).
According to B'Tselem
some 85% of Palestinian detainees
have been tortured during interrogation.
